What over 1500 healthcare workers told us
Mask fit
Mask fit needs to be improved to accommodate individual faces & prevent seal disruption.
Communication
Wearing FFP3 masks significantly challenges clinical communication, both verbal and non-verbal.
Tolerability
When worn for long periods, FFP3 masks can result in skin irritation and thermoregulation issues.
Delivery of Patient Care
A better designed mask will promote the delivery of patient care and restoration of healthcare services.
"Clinicians need to be able to work without compromise during pandemic times – and that requires an FFP3 mask that is fit-for-purpose"
Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge Biomedical Campus
"Re-designing the FFP3 mask for healthcare workers has to be viewed in the context of the system in which it is used and every aspect of that system has to support use of the mask."
John ClarksonProfessor & Director Engineering Faculty, University of Cambridge
"The threat of COVID-19 is likely to persist for longer than anticipated - it is imperative that we protect healthcare workers and patients alike."
Ravi GuptaVirologist & Professor of Clinical Microbiology, University of Cambridge
Strong collaborations
lead to enduring results.
We believe that collaboration with industry is crucial to the delivery of a better FFP3 mask for healthcare workers.
